Great example of how important it is to have a "can-do" attitude! Further, your article shows how agile small businesses are and that they can support BIG businesses' needs!

I appreciated the reminder of the positive results that often come from stepping out of our comfort zone, too!

I love your tips, especially the ones about treading gently and toning down the approach. I usually avoid the sales parties because I feel bad not buying stuff. I only go if I have something in mind I know I want to buy from that company. Which is funny because I just joined a direct sales business. I am going to focus more on one-on-one sales and meeting individual wants/needs than on generic parties because I don't want people to feel uncomfortable.

Heather, it was a great event! I met so many interesting bloggers, and volunteering felt great. Feed My Starving Children is an incredible organization - we actually packed 13,824 meals while we were there (enough to feed 38 kids for a year, we were told)! I'm definitely going back... think I'll bring my oldest daughter along next time. She's been asking so many questions about Haiti - this may be a great way to inspire a little activist-volunteer!

That book sounds incredible! I was reading the review and thinking about how fabulous it sounded and then I noticed it was written by Debra Snyder and I thought, "WOW!". Good for her.

Lea:
This article is absolutely phenomenal! This is one of the biggest lessons that business owners must learn, especially new business which are 5 years or younger. It's really important to find the natural rhythm of your business, yourself, your managers, and your employees (i.e. what works best and who is best suited for the job. Unfortunately, it might not be right for the boss to wear all of the "hats" which is quite a different paradigm shift from what many have thought to be true for small business owners.) Sometimes business is a lot like swimming and even the most experienced swimmers have to come up for some air! Thanks for the reminder. No need picking up sea shells by the sea shore when your talent really is describing the sea shells to your customer...Thanks for the reminder...http://theinfinitefieldmagazine.com

<a href="#comment-223" rel="nofollow">@Heather Kephart:</a>
Thanks for the comment, Heather. You're right, this applies at all levels of business. (Can you tell who I'm oh-so-sneakily targeting, though? Ha.) In a commission-based environment -- like the one I'm guessing your former financial services job was in -- I imagine that if you DIDN'T stick to your "highest and best use," you didn't get paid as well. True?
